A growing number of the over 50’s are struggling to find employment. There are currently around 400,000 people in the over 50 age group who are currently unemployed and almost half of that number have been out of work for at least a year and so are classed as long term unemployed by the Office of National Statistics.

The chances of finding permanent work for this age group are far lower than any other age group and yet they are very rarely the subject of initiatives led by the government to get people back to work.
