Avoid repossession Arrears with utility companies
Arrears with utility companies
If you have fallen into arrears with your utility companies and council tax, you need to follow a process with them, please read mortgage arrears.
The worst possible outcome, with your utility companies, is that they could disconnect your services. If this does happen, you will generally find it hard to get your services reconnected, until payment has been made in full. Once you have paid them you could have high re-connection fees or be put on a prepay meter. (Please note if you do not pay your TV licence you can face imprisonment)
If you try and go to another supplier you will find that they will carry out a credit search and it will show that you are in arrears with your previous supplier, more than likely refusing your business at this point.
Speak to your utility companies before they call you or send a letter. This will look better rather than ignoring them. If you can not pay them, make an agreement with them to pay in instalments.
Speaking to your council tax office is highly important, more important than your utility companies. If you fail to pay your council tax, you could face imprisonment. Ensure you speak to your council because not only can they arrange a payment plan, they can also offer advice.
